How to Identify Your Skin Type

Have you ever cringed or felt completely awkward when shopping for a cleanser or moisturiser and the specialist asks “what skin type are you?” If you’re nodding yes then this activity is for you.

Step 1. Wait 60 minutes after washing your face and then pat your T-Zone with a tissue. If oil rubbed off you have oily or combination skin.

Step 2. How does your skin feel? Dry skin will feel taut (tight) and oily skin will feel cleaner right away. Combination skin will have a cleaner feeling T-Zone but your cheeks will feel tight.  And sensitive skin will react by feeling itchy or developing a rash.

Step 3. Look in the mirror, if you notice red, flaky patches you most likely have dry or sensitive skin. But if your face is shiny all over, you have oily skin. If you have a bit of a mix, you have combination skin.

Step 4. If you have normal skin, your pores will be visible but not large. If you take a few steps back and still see your pores, you have oily skin. If they’re not visible, you have dry skin.

Step 5. If you skin wrinkles easy after applying pressure, you have dry/combination skin. Oily skin will feel smooth.
